1966 - we needed a "race-shop" for our "Evil Do-er" A/SR, and Hammonds & Williamson for their "Hairy Canary" AA/FC, so we got together, set up a shop, and named it the "Funny-Farm" - for obvious reasons. Soon, we graduated to the "LimeFire" AA/FC, joining "Jungle Jim", "Brutus" and "Sampson" as the Northern California contingent of supercharged nitro Funny Cars. Thinking back, those were really quite historic times for NorCal Blown Nitro Funny Car Drag Racing...
I bought a 'fridge for $15, we adorned it with decals from all of our go-fast parts and I named it the "WFR" - "World's Fastest Refrigerator". As time passed, some of those decals became very rare - true collector's items. The WFR went from shop to shop, still working on into the 21st Century. Don Williamson kept it until just a few years ago, and his son, Rick Williamson (of blown alcohol FC fame) made me a 12" tall metal die-cast replica, complete with accurate placement of decals etc. It is now sitting in the center of my memorabilia shelf - a truly prized possession, and a reminder of some fabulous experiences during the early days of Drag Racing. |

This was NOT your father's refrigerator - actually, it may have more likely been your GRAND father's old icebox.
